Speargun to Bali through Singapore

Does anyone have recent experiance travelling through Singapore Airport (in transit to Bali) with a speargun and diving gear?
I have used the search function and saw there might be some trouble.
So far I have never had any issues with a speargun in the surfbag, but this will be the first time through Singapore.
I appreciate all your inputs
thanks, manuel

You cannot travel through Singapore with spearguns. Had a friend get pulled off an airplane and almost go to jail.

I did it last year, no problems, 2 guns 130 and 140 cm. If your luggage is checked straight to the destination, you're fine.
Enjoy.

I travel through Sing every year on business. It might be good until your plane breaks and you have to stay overnight etc which is exactly what happened to my friend. He even had the correct paperwork to allow him to travel with the guns and he still got pulled off the airplane and jacked around. Sing customs are not the friendliest bunch of people in the world. I got held up there once because I didnt have the phone number of the hotel I was staying at.

I live in Japan and travel all through the Pacific many times a year because of my job, take my advice and find another route.

Unless you're willing to part with your guns and go through the customs nightmare leave them at home or find another route.

you shouldn't have any problem if you check the guns straight through to destination. if its a layover of a few days, you can declare it at the customs and let them keep the gun for you and retrieve them on your flight out.

if you are gonna be in singapore for a long while i suggest you apply for the permit before you arrive.

below is the website where you can apply for the permit. you might have to write in as you won't have the SingPass to apply.

lots of ships stopover in singapore and most of them have firearms on board, i guess its the same procedure.

i'm from singapore and i travel around with my spearguns too.

Re: Speargun to Bali through Singapore

thanks so much for all the info.
I will most probably fly to Singi and book a seperate flight with with Airasia to Bali, that means I would have to collect my baggage and re-check them. Seems like a bit of a risk. Maybe I should try renting / buying something cheap once I am in Bali?

Re: Speargun to Bali through Singapore

Singapore on a Checked through Flight is no problem according to my experience. Hong Kong is another story... They will automatically remove you from the plane and give you the rubber glove treatment even if you are just transiting through Hong Kong with a Speargun in your checked baggage.

If you think you will be saving money by flying to Singapore and then taking Air Asia.. you might be.. I think there is a promotional fare in two weeks time, and Air Asia has lots of good prices.. but... they stick it to you for baggage. So make sure you're not getting hosed.

Then again.. we do sell our beautiful wooden guns at a special factory price here in Bali...

You are right about your guns, they are some of the nicest I have seen (judging from the pictures only). I am in the process of finishing 2 homemade guns and would love to try them for the first time. But the risk of having them taken from me in Singapore after all the hard work I put into them would be brutal, so a visit to your factory would be an option.
cheers, Manuel

Thanks,

There is a Loaner Ulusub here for you as well. When are you coming? The waves have been good. My son does the Daily Surf report and pictures for Surfline, so you can get stoked..

Re: Speargun to Bali through Singapore

What a great offer, I am contacting you as the trip comes closer.
I will be there from May 30 to June 18 and thought of visiting the following:
-Bukit Peninsula
-Medewi
-Balian
-maybe Gili T.
...
Can you recommend any other spots for good freediving / surfing (I dont need to spear all the time, but dive)?

Re: Speargun to Bali through Singapore

Start off in the Bukit. Come visit in Uluwatu, and we'll see what the swell forecasts are. It's all about being in the right spot at the right time that time of year. This morning, Ulus is clean and glassy about head high with real nice lines. This is the leading edge of a new swell forecasted to build fast through the day. 2O second period by afternoon.. so it should be pretty solid ie triple overhead at some point in the next 24 hours.

Re: Speargun to Bali through Singapore

Waves have been Crankin for days. Some real Leash Snappers out there, double-triple overhead and grinding. Sounds good again this morning. If I can get these guns shipped, I'm back out there.
