anyone still here? Diving Oregon?

Hey group. I'm housesitting for a family in Gearhart for 2 weeks in June and wondering if I should bring my dive gear. Experienced SoCal diver here. Any recommendations for diving around Cannon Beach, Seaside, Astoria?? Any locals want to meet up?

I am not familiar with that stretch of the Oregon coast, but you will need a 7mm wetsuit if you plan on diving out there; temperatures are about 52 degrees. I have heard that on the outside of the Haystack Rock on Cannon Beach there is a decent reef, but I have not dove it myself.

Bring it! I've never bumped into anyone spearfishing this section of coast that I wasn't with. But it's always pretty good.

The jetty at Garibaldi is regular hangout. You can always shoot rockfish, though I'm not all that fond of them. Usually score a lingcod or two and sometimes greenling. If you like dungeness, there are usually some on the sandy bottom. 40' ish. Make sure to hit pretty close to slack tide. Especially if you won't be diving with tanks, Otherwise you'll be cruising by way to fast to kill anything. And there is a lot of braided line and other garbage in the rocks.

Lots of spots to scoop crabs if you're into it. June may not be the best time, but there will probably be some.

Like Northstar said, bring a thick suit if you have one.

Hoo yeah!

Late August / Early September is my favorite time to be there. We talked about it this year, but time and finances are not presently obliging.
