Re: Your Kayak Setup for freediving

you can hang a hoop stringer off the side of the boat so all the fish stay in the water on the stringer. I use a rail saver off of a broken surfboard leash to connect the hoop to the kayak loops (whatever those small loops are that the seat snaps on to). I do it like this- i swim each fish over to the boat. Flip the stringer of fish in the back, break off some kelp to throw on top to keep em out of the sun and moist and away you go!

Re: Your Kayak Setup for freediving

Sanny: Good tips, thanks. No kelp this side of Baja, but a wet towell is a great idea when paddling with fish out of the water. I most always dive with a floatline/float/stringer... portable setup cause I wander far from the anchored boat... haven't had an issue with a shark or sea lion yet, but the seagulls sure do love to inspect and peck.

Nice! I really like the simple speargun tie system you are using, same one I use... very secure and safe. One thing I do when diving is tie off paddle and anchor on the starboard side of the yak... my gun securing system is also on starboard side... I enter the kayak on the port side, thus I am never getting tangled in rigging.

Is that Nanook in the back seat? (you guys are way too young to know who Nanook of the North is)

Re: Your Kayak Setup for freediving

alekskocev,
Be mindful of the positioning if you strap your gun to the side of the boat. Too far forward (close to the seat) and you will have to avoid it when paddling and too low on the side (strap hanging down with gun inside) and it'll cause drag in the water at times (especially when choppy or when loaded down with fish, etc. on the way in).

Re: Your Kayak Setup for freediving

Salivating at the new scupper pros... Mine serves well. The old scupper pro with two hatches might be the best setup I've experienced. Everything fits inside, including my 150 cm speargun and a 50 pound wahoo lol.

I put the guns and anchor in front. The weight belt, wetsuit top, bouey, water etc, in the back, and I still have plenty of space left. The only thing I keep outside is the flag. It's a very sleek design.

Dealing with a large wahoo. I do struggle to make it fit (see the end of video).

Yes, there is a scupper pro 14 coming out.

I saw a video of the scupper 14 with two hatches (I would buy that one) but alas it never made it past the prototyping... So I'll buy all you old scuppers!
