Vale Torrance Parker, Commercial Diver and Author
Upon reading that Al Tillman had passed on I immediately thought of Torrance Parker who wrote his own book at around the same time that Al's book came out, his book being “20000 Jobs Under The Sea". Although about commercial diving I was always interested in anything about the sea and under it.
Surprised and saddened to learn that he too has also passed on and I figured that he needed a mention here. His book has now become a collector's item and is priced accordingly, unfortunately I forgot to buy it when it first came out! His second book "20000 Divers Under The Sea" is still available, but you need to search for it. Reason: more info, mentioned his second book |

Re: Vale Torrance Parker, Commercial Diver and Author
Torrance Parker's second book "20000 Divers Under The Sea" can be purchased here:-
https://www.divedesco.com/P/526/20000DiversUnderTheSea I have my copy already on its way, so be sure you don't miss out! DESCO is one of oldest and most respected companies in diving, as all pro-commercial divers will know. Their name used to be in the credits of "Sea Hunt" from memory. I watched it as a kid and always wanted to go underwater just like my hero "Mike Nelson", played by the unforgettable Lloyd Bridges who was born for the role. Re: Vale Torrance Parker, Commercial Diver and Author
Thanks to the guys at DESCO who did such a great job in packaging the "20000 Jobs Under The Sea" book by Torrance Parker, it just arrived in the mail late yesterday and is in perfect condition, being boxed and padded and in its original clear film wrapping. The wrinkles in the image of the cover are the clear film wrapping which I did not remove before scanning it.
The sponge diving industry was big business in its day and a driver in the development of diving equipment and thus an important part of its history. Last edited by popgun pete; 01-10-2019 at 06:43 PM. Reason: added a comment and a photo |
