Don Paul has been destroying some serious fish for decades with those fart guns
I would love, love, love to dive those guns but they are technically illegal in baja so I dont want to pay the cash
Right now he has the new airbelette with the dry barrel kit and has managed to hit some pretty solid fish with it lol
Those air guns are amazing to dive with super super light and maneuverable with more range than a band gun of the same length

Rife Island is the favorite gun in my quiver.

Re: All around workhorse gun...?

First off this thread has been extremely helpful and I want to thank everyone who has posted an opinion. Purchasing your first gun can be a little overwhelming to someone new to the sport so I hope this helps others as well.

Just in case anyone is interested,,, I have decided to go with a Mako Oceanic 100 cm 2 band for a couple reasons. Mainly because it seems a versatile size, and like forestG pointed out it can be used one-band up north, and 2-band for distance. I am also impressed with the guarantees made by Mako on their products. I will get a reel as well when budget allows.

I really liked spearincali's suggestions of a predator pro or a cayman hf; the cayman hf has very impressive balance and seems a more technical option, but the mako pro sounds sturdier. A Riffe of similar size would be my first choice, but the stock gun is slightly over the upper bounds of my price range, so when the time comes to expand my quiver that will be a priority.

Very good choice, great gun for the money. You can always upgrade if you really get addicted later on and want a longer Riffe for boat trips etc. For now though that gun will hit anything within about 15 feet which is as much as you usually need with the vis round here! Enjoy

a jbl midhandle or euro its probably going to give you the most bang for your buck, unless you buy something used.....

Mako has the best customer service around. Dano is the man and will go out of his way to help almost anyone out.

And where would we be without innovation and the spirit to try somthing new? we would all be eating tea and crumpets and pronouncing our "A"s wrong.

Like a few others have said, Because of the testimony about MAKO, and my own experience dealing with them, my next gun, a replacement for my worn out but awesome Rabitech 110 mid range gun, will be a MAKO 110 or 120 ETR.

I have no experience with pneumatics, but APPARENTLY no one else does either. I hope you find the next best thing for us all.
