Re: Must have apps or websites for diving!
To really have a good grasp on where and what the pelegic gamefish are doing plus conditions, you need to cross reference with some of the hook and line sites...saves a lot of fuel and time if you are an offshore diver...for shore diving, you want to know the time between swells (8 seconds or less, usually means choppy conditions/poor vis and 14 seconds is good...vis is relative...I hunt halibut under red tide (it makes good cover to sneak up on them) and sometimes, the vis is good down 20' and bad on top or vice versa...the best vis is usually at peak high tides, preferably early am and late afternoon for hunting fish...that is when they are out and about, feeding...

Don't forget www.surfline.com for shore dives, don't wanna be launching in high surf.
And http://www.beachcitiesscuba.com/lagunaseasports/ for local north OC vis reports.

For swell, I use swellinfo.com they breakdown the swell and wind pretty accurately. also, http://forecasts.surfingmagazine.com/ forecasts are great when you look at them with the chart option on desktop. it shows hourly conditions when you have a a building / declining swell. What Ive noticed, is that swell with long duration ( 14-20 sec.) stirrs up the water and results in poorer viz. |

If you folks like getting NOAA buoy data on your smartphones, check out the NOAA Buoy Data app, I just found it via Twitter and it is free and works well.
