First Triton meeting of the year and start of the King of the Triton's

Today, we had our first Monterey Bay Triton Meeting of the year. Considering that conditions were not ideal, we ended up having a great turnout with 31 people in attendance. We had a chance to meet some new members and add a couple of new members.

For the King of the Triton Series, Alex Reynaud discussed some of the new rule changes and what some of the prizes will be for the tournament (must go to Triton website for details). Dave Edlund brought our club a couple of trophy’s that were donated by Carl Krupansky. They were won by Carl in the mid 1960’s. Dave also spoke about the upcoming Nationals in August. Thank you Dave for your contribution and time you have spent contributing to our club. I’d ask Dave to be sure to thank Carl for his generous contributions and donations he has given to the Trition’s and to the sport we all have come to love so much.

We also want to thank Josh Russo for speaking on behalf of the Waterman’s Alliance and informing us of the forward progression to legalize spearing of striped bass in the ocean. Thank you Josh for “fighting the good fight” on behalf of all spearfisherman and fisherman alike. Thanks for sharing with Josh.

As this was our first meeting of the year, we also took this day to kick off our King of the Triton series tournament. Conditions were not, to say the least, very good. The Carmel area was pretty much blown out with swells that were HUGE and of course, they had the AT&T Pebble Beach Open golf tournament going on. So, that area was not accessible. We were pretty much forced to dive the one and only safe and calm water (still fairly rough and lots of surge), at Otter Cove. Several guys braved the water and came out with a few nice fish to be weighed in for the start of the tournament series. Great job guys and gals.

If you would like to learn more about the King of the Triton Series tournament and rules, please go to our website at www.montereybaytritons.com and click on the “King of the Triton’s” tab. If this entices you to want to be a part of this series, this is your chance to become a member of the club, as you must be a member to participate. Or if you just want to be a member because you want to be a part of a group who supports the sport and has lots of fun diving, then you have another good reason to join. If you have any questions about membership, please feel free to send me a PM.

Below are some pictures from our meeting, including the winners plaque for the King of the Triton's series and a couple of pictures of one of the trophies donated by Carl Krupansky.

Hopefully, some of the guys will post pics of the scenery and of the fish during the weigh-in.

Bryan, thanks for making the post. It saved me from having to commit a number of spelling errors and typing mistakes. And thanks to all of the Triton and friends who came to meeting yesterday. It's going to be a great year.
