Introducing a new section for Boating

This new section on boating was recommended by my good friend Kmoose. Here is his reasoning for this great idea. I will move some boat-related threads over here from other forums to kick this thing off. Thanks Kenny!

Re: Introducing a new section for Boating

My Second Favorite Topic!!

Many of us spend alot of time talking with our dive buddies about spearfishing. Things like when, where, how, who, and when we are going again. I find much of my free time revolving around this subject ether on the phone with my friends and family, or on this very board. There is only one other topic that comes close to drawing a parity in my spearfishing world……….It is that money and time sucking vortex in the back yard! It is what every wife and girlfriend scorns and what every guy that sees you dragging it around wants………The Dive Boat!

Yes, she is my mistress and ever wanting of my undivided attention. My wife never has to hunt me down in any bar or gentlemen’s club after work. She knows right where to find me, in the boat.

So I submit to all who have, had, want, loath, or love that special thing that rockets us offshore to partake in our passion and returns us home safely at the end of the day, our Dive Boats and a Section to call our own. No more will our boat chatter be buried under the “All about Guns” section in “All Other” or “Off Topic”!

This Section is about Dive Boats baby! Glass, wood, composite, or metal. Shiny new, classic or git er done battle axe. We all want to see them, talk about them, share ideas and offer advice and opinion. What makes your boat so special? What have you added, cut off or modified? What are you planning? Parts? Materials? Buying, selling? It’s all right here! So let’s post up the Boat Porn folks and lets see what you got!

Re: Introducing a new section for Boating

And so there is a thread under way right now where a guy asks what boat will be good for him in California. He specify says how he will be using it for fishing in Northern California, but wants to trailer down to So Cal to go out to the islands. Will that be forced into the new forum where guys who favor open boats in the sunshine of Key West can tell him why a pilot house boat is not the way to go?

The area is for all boats I'm sure.

All he would have to do is title the thread. Lame ass sissy Califorina Boat question and we'll be sure avoid it! J/K Boats are boats.

Just bustin on ya Bill! Not all guys in Florida like open boats. I personally hate them. Yeah they are great in the summer, but suck major balls in the winter for a diver in my opinion. Thats just MY opinion.

I don't think most FL guys like a real large pilot house due to the boat being top heavy and having a tendancy to rock and roll.

Post away!

Jason

Wink Re: Introducing a new section for Boating

Hey wait a minute! Bill and Jason, I love my pilot house boat here in Florida when I am doing a "Starbucks Run" three miles out of Palm Beach and the air temperature is below 65. I also don't like getting wet! LOL except when going down of course.

Re: Introducing a new section for Boating

Bill I see what you are saying we down and over in the South East Cost (Miami, Keys, etc).
We have our Very tropical weather but we all go out on our boats almost every day that gives us a lot of experience that we can share with all the board members. I’m 100% positive that a lot of West Cost Boater will give a lot of in put about the needs of the WestCost.

I think that if lived in the West cost this boat would be a contender for that location.
I even like it for here (but its out of my price) need some deep pockets.

KMOOSE this is a griate idea.

Re: Introducing a new section for Boating

Could we get the thread from a long time ago where people showed their boats moved in here or should I just start a new one? I like getting ideas from the way other people have setup their boats.

Re: Introducing a new section for Boating

Well finally i may get some info

I don't have a boat, nor the money to buy it, like you guys do..
I do have a zodiac, 14 ft, not rib, I use mostly for coastal diving and fishing. I am thinking about taking it as far as 30 miles offshore.. anybody has any experience with inflatables used for some offshore fishing?

When I was in the military we used big inflatables and we were out at sea for hours in very rough seas.. but this might be different..

1 up + 1 down = 2 safe divers

For those who can stand to read the opinions of Californians, here is a boat thread from the last week. It has photos of my boat.

Re: Introducing a new section for Boating

My next boat will not be an open boat. Even if it means curtains. Keep in mind, our weather here is just as crappy in winter on certain days. It's tough getting in and out of 55 degree water with a 45 or 50 degree air temp
