Re: Neptonics "Shark Shocker" Ocean Guardian eSPEAR

I looked into this about a year ago. Last year was a sharky year for me and I was just looking at options. I never did end up buying it, but it was mainly because it was rather bulky looking, if I had to keep it on my belt. Of course I could keep it on my float, but that would defeat the purpose.

Seems to be more of a wand than a spear. Maybe it could be built into a gun as an accessory with the power pack located nearer the reel position and the business end sticking out like a bayonet under the muzzle. Could serve as muzzle ballast and something to poke at unwanted visitors after a shot.

That would be a good idea to incorporate it into the gun ballasting, or just into the gun period.

Looks like they have a nice holster for on the leg attachment. That's better than the belt at least. Although, I recently moved my knife placement away from the leg after it being a main point for tangling. I guess if I had a bigger issue with sharks, I could live with that leg attachment. Or just get the Freedom7 leg attachment. I heard those things give out a shock if your leg goes above the waterline. I can't stand getting shocked.

This shows what is what. The rear electrode would have to stand proud of a gun, so it is not like you could just have the tip projecting.

They make one that wraps around your ankle. It's called the Freedom 7. It's more powerful and thus provides a larger area of protection. There's some good testing on them by 3rd parties and YouTube videos. I'm considering one. Good thing is, it doesn't affect fish.

I had a brand new Shark Shield freedom 7 when diving on the coral sea. I have sharks big and small swimming right up to me. i push a few away with the Gun.

I am very doubtful they work. Some will say they only work only on the huge man eaters, but they are rarely encountered anyway.

Another friend believes the shark shield will attract the sharks as they have senses that can pick up electrical impulses.

A hungry big shark on a food run will charge right in after sizing you up from a long distance, no electric field will stop it, but could be OK for deterring "window shoppers" doing a lazy pass.

+1.....I tried the Sharkbandz II, one on my wrist and one on my ankle, they are ok on the slow passes but once the doggie's on, all bets off. Does not stop them.
