New Build "Graduation Speargun" with Tin Man's Mech
So here is the story. This is my third build (second complete, lol). This build was very special to me.
First, the blank is Burmese Teak with 8 laminated pieces made by Bill DeRocher "Wood Guy". I had the blank sitting is my room waiting for me to gain more experience to not ruin Bill's blank. Then Bill gave me the hint that Tin Man's mech was close to being available to the public so I decided to wait. I bought the first day it was on Mako's website. Then I started to think about all the features I wanted to include in the gun and the design. My brother always wanted to get a gun with a "cuttlefish" shape or similar to Abellan, so he recommended me to make a gun like that. While I was brainstorming on the gun, my brother came in the news that the family had been waiting for years "I registered at school for the last class I need to present my graduation project and finally graduate". BINGO, I'll build a speargun as a graduation gift. He is a Media Arts and Animation major, so I told him, why don't you make an sketch of that "cuttlefish Speargun" you keep talking about. After 10 min. he shows me this which he drafted on tablet he uses. I was impressed. So I started working on the gun, slowly, but with his graduation day as the dateline. Throughout the build, I kept asking for his opinion and getting his input on how should I shape the gun, handle color, handle placement. After lots of dust, rasping and working the spoke shave I was getting closer. Finally, I finished the gun, gave it a few coats of Teak Oil and put it away. He never suspected the gun was for him. A couple days before his graduation I rigged the gun and wrapped it with brown paper. I printed the sketch he made and wrote a letter to congratulating him. When I gave him the present, I first handed him the letter and he didn't understand anything until he opened the package. He was happy as hell and overwhelmed with the final outcome. Here is a video of the project he presented: http://vimeo.com/81107439 Specs: Band Strech: 105cm. 2 x 9/16" bands Wood: Burmese Teak Mech: Tin Man Reverse Mech Handle: Tin Man handle frame with Mako (not mako spearguns) AR grip Ballast: The gun is neutral in the water. Added abt 8 oz of Lead. Wood Guy made the SS plates to hide some lead. btw, I tested the gun in the pool, no recoil and Tin Man's mech is soft as butter. Here are the pics:

From Mako Spearguns. Last time I check it was sold out.
A side note..... The handle was originally Tan Color and I dyed the plastic using Rite Dyes. So, get creative!

I like this story, and the gun looks like it's going to glide. Awesome stuff.

Jose! You killed it man. What a nice gun only surpassed by the quality of the gesture. Your brother is a lucky man. And congrats for the graduation. That is big time!
The gun is a real work of art. I would be proud to shoot that gun all day everyday

Thanks guys!

Rob, I'll measure the gun and post. The blank was 2.75 " x 1.375 ". I tried not to remove any wood from top & bottom of the blank, same to the sides at the widest portion of the barrel.
