Gladiator 115 - diy rollergun
My largest rollergun. Made of 11 laminates iroco and mahogany, bottom and sides are covered with 3 layers of carbon cloth. Elongation is 115 at circular bands and 112 at bottom bands over the pulleys.
Height is only 27 mm at the head of the body and 33 mm at the reel position, width 74 mm. Completed it's only 2,7 kg weight. |

Amazing how you can get so much equipment on a speargun and still keep it so streamlined. Very impressive craftsmanship and obviously well thought out. Do all your reverse roller guns float without the shaft? How is the balance?

They float with the shaft too, so I've to put some lead to make it neutral balanced.

Re: Gladiator 115 - diy rollergun
I am trying to figure out how this roller works. It seems like there is 2 conventional bands and the rope goes over the roller? Or maybe the pictures were not taken at the same time with the same setup? I remember seeing an italian roller gun that used pulleys and strings over the roller rather than the have the bands go over the rollers, but it seemed quite complicated. Do you have video of how this loads and shoots? Would be very interesting to see!
Also I like the Ermes reel and his newest reel is amazing but quite expensive, and I think he has put up a patent on the design (Leonardo I think). Are you using the Ermes reverse trigger as well? |

It not so complicated, as any ather gun with multiple loading. Try to look on the rope as ordinary circular band. Rope goes first, circular bands are second and third loading and outside pair bands at the bottom are last loaded when the gun is turned upside down. No, trigger is also my product. |

From the photo it looks like the metal for the trigger and for the sear is from a different metal to the other parts. Is it heat treated SS? If so would be interesting as I don't think there are too many euro reverse triggers in the market with these hardened parts. I know that the Neptonics tuna trigger uses hardened parts, but that is american notch. A heat treated sear would be great for heavy rubber loads or for people who use very hard high carbon shafts. |

If I could have one of these guns I'd be happy for a year...if I could build them I'd be happy forever

Re: Gladiator 115 - diy rollergun
Yes,design is cool for an wooden gun, handle ergonomic is properly done, craftsman's work is precise. But I have some questions about roller mechanics. This system looks like inverted roller but its actually not.To use the benefit of rollers you need a band going through a roll-for full roller rolls are on the muzzle, for inverted are in the back of the gun.Only then you get aditional speed, becouse band is contracting and mooving through the rolls at the same time, accelerating the wishbones faster than normal.
If only the rope goes through a roll, you dont get any benefits, even loose some energy from the friction.Made like this the gun will shoot fine, but not superior than a normal gun,you have only the hassle loading a roller. And also for inverted rollers there is better and verry simple way to stop the rope at the muzzle, these metal rails are good solution for the full roller. Please don't accept my critics as something bad. Everything I say is tested and prooved, and I want to share my experience, not hide it like other people or companies.I just like verry much your work and would like to see it optimised! |
