Re: Abellan spergun
I think many guns now use similar principles as the Abellan gun and have even improved on many of the deficiencies of the original Abellan. A good example is the Orca and you can see an invert roller in action here
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bmz-muCkGn8 The reason why the Abellan shot so good was because it used a high handle and with some small adjustments you could quickly make the handle recoil go straight into the palm. It also had a plastic trigger sear that avoided the horrible problem of sears scratching and thus killing your accuracy. The Orca is similar to an Abellan on steroids ... it has perfect high handle ... perfect shaped handle with adjusted twist to keep recoil into palm ... a new DR SS trigger that many on this forum have followed through its development and is now what I consider perfect. If you look at all the new successful speargun designs ... they are now all following similar shapes or at least they are following the correct design principles. It doesn't matter if you are using a classic or roller speargun ... design principles are still very important. |

Re: Abellan spergun
I can only agree having followed this conversation and all the developments over the last eight or nine years.
Orca guns are some of the best i have ever used. Indeed the Abellan on steroids. I got myself a v115 and i am extremely happy with it. The inverted roller is of course more complex than a traditional setup and since it is lacking a kicker band the acceleration could be faster but the performance is certainly there. For comparison the Kosmos line is the one to compare to a Denton i think. As a woodworker with s deep passion for wood and craftsmanship I was always drawn to wooden spearguns. However today all my favorite guns are made of carbon fiber if just makes so much more sense in a marine environment. |
