2021 Louisiana Freedive Championship's

Its official the 2021 Louisiana Freedive championships will be July 15-16-17 with the Weigh In and Awards Ceremony to be held at the Hurricane Hole Marina in Grand Isle Saturday July 17th!! Stay tuned for more details and dont forget to mark your dates in the calendar!!

2021 Louisiana State Freedive Championship Rules
1. Registration is open until Midnight, July 14, 2021. Registration fee is $65. Pre-registration by phone or email is allowed. All participants must be known prior to the start of the rodeo. Phone ins- Joe 225-936-9685, email: Jwegmann1@cox.net. or paypal

2. Valid fishing license is required of all participants.
3. Diving is open to all waters.
4. Competition starts Thursday July, 15, 2021 at 12:01 a.m. and ends Saturday, July 17th, 2021 at 7:00 pm
5. All fish subject to autopsy.
6. Scales open Saturday for the Awards Ceremony , July 17, 2021 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm at Hurricane Hole Marina and Resort in Grand Isle
7. All decisions by Rodeo Officials will be final.
8. Headquarters for the Rodeo will be Hurricane Hole Marina and Resort 1851 LA-1 Grand Isle, La 70358 1-985-787-3014
9. No power heads allowed.
10. Fish must be speared and apprehended by Diver without assistance.
11. Fish speared from boats are not eligible.
12. Scuba diving and the use of compressed air are not allowed.
13. The use of detachable floats or “buoys,” is only allowed for Tuna, Wahoo, and Mahi Mahi. Diver with float may let go of the line and follow the line with the boat, but must retrieve the fish while in the water. Diver must bring the fish and or the line to the boat without assistant. The boat may go to the diver. The diver may not hold on to a down line or to the anchor line when shooting the fish. Any length of line is allowed. Reels and Bungee cords are allowed. Fish must be shot without the aid of compressed air rather active or passive. Bait and Burlee chumming is allowed.
14. Diver must be present for Raffle prizes, Saturday, July 17. All Sponsor Prizes/Products are to be given away during the Raffle.
15. Offshore landing permit Both non-charter recreational anglers and charter captains are required to obtain this permit (free of charge) to possess tunas, billfish, swordfish, amberjacks, groupers and snappers (except for grey snapper). Anglers wishing to obtain a permit must register at www.wlf.la.gov/rolp. More details on this program are also available on this site.
16. The 3-2-1 point system will be used with ties broken by cumulative weights of fish on these boards.
17. In case of any ties due to weight the earliest fish (es) entered win(s).
18. Eligible fish species/ categories are as follows: Red Snapper, Mangrove Snapper, Grouper / Rock Hind, Cobia, Black Drum, Jack Fish (Any legal Jack), Sheepshead, Wild Card Fish( African Pompano, King Mackerel, Tripple Tail, Any legal snapper besides Mangrove), and Blue Water (Tuna, Wahoo, Mahi Mahi (5lb min).
Competition begins Thursday, July 15 at 12:01 a.m. and ends Saturday, July 17, 2021 at 7:00 pm
Awards Ceremony will follow at 7:30 pm
Saturday, July 17 --- Weigh-in Day Scales Open Only from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm

We cant thank our Sponsors and Divers enough for coming together this year to make the 2021 Louisiana State Freedive Championships an incredible success!!!! We had an awesome 3 days of diving some great weather and hanging out at Hurricane Hole Marina for the weigh in and festivities!! Saturday night we had some impressive fish come in, The Royalist were jamming, The Bauer Family donated some delicious Crabs for dinner and the energy in the crowd was electric!!
Huge Congratulations to Virgil Price taking king Skin Diver with an impressive 15.6lb Gag grouper. We had a three way tie for first place with Virgil taking the win with 7pts 85.4lbs, Garret Leblanc taking 2nd with 7pts 60.6lbs and Chris Ricouard taking 3rd with 7pts 59.2lbs two of which were a 30.7lb and 21.2lb Trippletail
Abbie woodard took Queen and second place Jack Fish while also securing a new IUSA World record (pending) Dog Snapper
Lucy Cardet also shot an incredible 23.3lb pending IUSA World record American red Snapper
Ronnie Jo shot a 50lb Wahoo while Shooting red snapper in 60 fsw
The coveted Best Boat went to Sea Sniper Captained by Chris Ricouard!!
