Garmin or Humminbird?

Hi everyone, I am about to buy an inexpensive fishfinder, and now consider either a Garmin or Humminbird. I do not want something low-quality by a brand that is not known. So I prefer buying something simpler, but of better quality. My budget is $300 at max, so I do not expect to get any sophisticated system, just a thing that will show, whether there is fish or no. Here are 2 models I consider as an option:
Garmin Chirp fish finder at Recreation ID
Humminbird 5 Chirp fish finder from Amazon
Now, I see the $20 difference, which is okay. I am more concerned about which brand to select... I know that both brands seem to be okay, but there may be some difference in quality or weak places you people are aware of?....

Afted a small research I discovered, that Humminbird doesn't work well with Minnkota, while Garmin will do better with it. Is that true?

From my experience Garmin is a way better choice.
But what do I know! I used to work at West Marine, and my own brother went with humminbird over Garmin, even after my input, only to have to replace it..I call that throwing good money after bad.
