Your breath up method
I am sorta new to freediving and many have mentioned a freedive course for safety and of course for freediving techniques. A few friends have taken different courses, and breathing methods vary...what is your method to breath up before you submerge?

Re: Your breath up method
Personally I try to fart as hard as possible to allow more air into my lungs.

Re: Your breath up method
Yea, you're going to want to breath in...then out. Repeat. But seriously...deep, slow, and don't hyperventilate. 3 or 4 once relaxed and slowed down your heart beat thru concentration is the way I work. Stay calm and move efficiently,

I did nearly 30m on day three of my into freediving course with Apnea Total and that was common I believe as a few other students did similar depths. Their breath up was quite technical involving several cycles of long inhales and exhales mixed with what they called flushing breaths... I believe it was thought to be mild hyper ventilation by some in the freediving world. I don't know about that but it was bloody relaxing.. if you want to get students involved relaxed and seeing results fast I could certainly see why you'd do it but I never use it spearing and don't do much other then focus on relaxing and taking a few long deep breaths if I think about breathing at all. Works fine for me doing sub 1.5 min/20m spear diving. Would love to know what those med spearos shooting fish at 60m are doing.. |

Re: Your breath up method
I'm new here and I have a related question. When I was taught to free dive I was told to first take 4s inhale / 2s pause / 8s exhale / 2s pause breaths to relax and then take 2-3 full breaths.
My experience doing the first relaxing breaths is that instead of lowering my heart rate it would increase it from 56bpm - 66bpm and decreasing my SpO2 by a few percents. Is this normal? Any ideas on what I could be doing wrong? |
