Which Riffe? Alternatives?
Hi all,
Have always had a 42 Biller. Am looking to get a Riffe soon, but am not sure which one/size? Need it to be nimble for wrecks/structure (snapper/grouper/cobia), but also large enough for the bluewater (wahoo/dolphin). What are your recommendations on size? Also, are there Riffe alternatives? Or are they still the go to. Any opinions appreciated. Greg |

Re: Which Riffe? Alternatives?
why buy a riffe when you can get more from an
impaler koah ulusub death stick black tip for the same or less money? |

Re: Which Riffe? Alternatives?
You need to move away from the idea that you are going to buy one gun that will be best for freediving for Wahoo in Blue water and be good for hunting little, fast and sneaky snappers when scuba diving.
I do both freediving and scuba in the local area as well. I would suggest that you buy a gun for reef diving and then wait to buy a larger dedicated gun for Blue water - Wahoo etc. I personally use a 120 cm enclosed track mako gun for local scuba and freediving. The enclosed track allows very fast re-loading which is essential when scuba diving and it has the range and power to land larger fish. It is still maneuverable enough to target smaller fish as well. I've only ever landed two Wahoo myself, both were shot with a 120 railgun with a straight shaft/flopper. This is NOT the best blue water rig, but it can be used. A longer gun, a slip tip and a double wrap of line are probably better for the blue water application.

Re: Which Riffe? Alternatives?
If you do want to get a Riffe, by far the best choice is a Riffe Euro X with my favorite size being a 120 X. It certainly is not the best choice today as there are many better alternatives in terms of smaller footprint with same performance. But if the added size is not a deal breaker, it can be setup to shoot really accurately with excellent power all but the largest fish.

Re: Which Riffe? Alternatives?
I agree with spearq8. I've been shooting a Riffe Euro 90 for the past six years and have had little to no problems. I have no need for any other gun, shit, my dad and I share the gun and we are commericial. The gun is very maneuverable, accurate, and packs a punch. Plus I prefer wood guns.

If you gave me a Riffe, I'd sell it. Much better custom options out there. C

Re: Which Riffe? Alternatives?
Ive never owned a riffe but i do like the 120x.
but.. i watch the classifieds quite closely and have noticed that all riffes, even the only used once guns take a huge loss on resale. |

Re: Which Riffe? Alternatives?
I've owned or shot almost all of them...
Seasnipers, Billers, Alexanders, Rob Allens, Wongs, Picassos, etc. I started with Riffes and after owning all the others, I ended up shooting the Riffe Euro again. I have the 130 and the 110 Euro for my all around guns here in So Cal. Very accurate, maneuverable guns. I think its Riffes best gun.
