"Hunters of the Deep" 1954 Historic Dive Doco
Early diving in the USA and the work of the Scripps Institute in California, you can see it all here in the 1954 documentary "Hunters of the Deep".

Re: "Hunters of the Deep" 1954 Historic Dive Doco
The Bottom Scratchers were closely associated with the Scripps Institute and knew all the divers there. Bottom Scratcher Jim Stewart was the inaugural Chief Diving Officer at the Institute and was one of the last surviving members of the Bottom Scratchers. Martin "Marty" Pasos was the last formally inducted member in 2001 and it was hoped that he would be the custodian of the club's legacy in the years to come, but sadly Marty has also passed away on 28th March 2012.
Thus ended an era which we will not see again where the ocean was a place of seemingly endless resources and contained many sights and creatures yet to be seen. These men were the ones who paved the way for the rest of us to plunge in and take a look for ourselves at the submarine world. Last edited by popgun pete; 01-28-2019 at 05:08 AM. Correction to Bottom Scratcher list. Dr Grouper was Connie Limbaugh.
