Very sad news, my condolences to Jay’s family. Jay and Jackie were always kind to me and we were always “friendly competitors”. Back in Feb of 2000 we did our first DEMA show in New Orleans at the convention center. On the morning of the first day both Jay and Jackie walked down to our booth, welcomed us to the industry, and congratulated Cindy and I on doing our first show. We talked for quite a while, they gave us a lot of helpful advice, and wished us well. Their kindness and professionalism on that day had a big impact on me. I greatly appreciated it and I will never forget it. RIP Jay.

A great man and a great line of products. I have used many of his guns and floats and knives. Thank you Jay, for making our sport a wonderful experience.

Re: Jay Riffe has passed

Sad to hear that Jay has passed. In the 80's there was little selection available for decent spearfishing gear and spearguns but Riffe products were available and well known for their quality then as they are today.

I enjoyed meeting Jay and diving with him at Cortez Banks in the early 90's. His brother "Juan Pistola" who also passed, was well known in southern Baja Mexico and often served as our weather monitor and radio link while on expedition at the Revillagigedo islands aboard the Ambar III.

Rest in peace Jay.
