Re: Current Vis - Tampa Bay Region (Homosassa to Sarasota)
Nice fish, especially for mid September in 30'-50'.

Re: Current Vis - Tampa Bay Region (Homosassa to Sarasota)
Thanks dbrown and headhunter! We ran out again yesterday out of Anclote and did great on gags, hogs and mangos in 30-40’. This was a different area than last week but the same general depth. Vis was a hazy ttb all day. I’m not sure if the fish have moved in shallower or if they’ve been there all summer but the past 2 weeks have been the first time that we’ve had good enough vis in that depth to dive these spots in months. Fun day!

Re: Current Vis - Tampa Bay Region (Homosassa to Sarasota)
Time to contribute....
Went out today north of Clearwater 80-50ft, shot 1 gag, 3 good red groupers, 8 nice hoggies, and several mangs. Viz was great early in the morning, as the tide went out it got hazy but still clean. Water 83 degrees. Cheers Pal-o-rifffic |

Re: Current Vis - Tampa Bay Region (Homosassa to Sarasota)
Thanks for the reports. Giving it a run on Sat. Weather turned good and caught the sore throats and cold that's been ping ponging through my house. Hope to keep it at bay and have some fun. Will, post later on Sat or Sun. Good luck!! Know a bunch are headed out Sat.

Re: Current Vis - Tampa Bay Region (Homosassa to Sarasota)
Viz was 25' off Anclote. Water was 82 degrees. Went from 40' out to 60'. Lot of small fish. Came back into to Clearwater and my buddy shot a nice cobia on a small wreck. Ended up with 2 gags, 3 hogs, a Spanish, 20 mangos and the cobia. Nice day. Glad to be back in the water. Ran into a pod of small dolphins racing across the water. Thought one was going to run right into us as we were running perpendicular. Also ran into a family of four dolphins. Rough life. I called them the Adams family. Mom had a big gash on her L side and one of the juveniles was missing his dorsal. I'll post the video of the encounter later.

One and done off Cedar Key but we had to find them. Hard morning current but 50+ feet of vis out to 70’.

I’m sure Dan has some footage in the works. This is the first time I’ve had my boat out since my shoulder replacement early June.

Re: Current Vis - Tampa Bay Region (Homosassa to Sarasota)
Out of Clearwater pass 10/5/19
Viz was 30-40' vertically in the 50-65' we dove. Water 82 degrees. Lot of fun. Lot of nice fish. We both limited out on gags and hogs on dive 2. Plus I shot 5 mangroves. Then we hit a wreck. Looking for cobia. My buddy saw some, but couldn't get em. I back dove it but never saw em. Real nice day. Lot of turtles. Lot of bait. Last edited by Dbrown; 10-06-2019 at 05:10 PM. Re: Current Vis - Tampa Bay Region (Homosassa to Sarasota)
15-20 miles west of NPR today. Almost called it due to predictions of conditions, but decided WTF - let's do it!
Me, SealRock, his gf Ridley, and Charlies is Sleeping (Doug) - great crew. Conditions weren't bad and the Pelican handled them well. 35 fsw and 80 degrees water temp. Decent viz for our first drops on some ledges. SealRock nailed a couple of nice gags and a MONSTER mango - 22+ inches and at least 7 pounds. STUD! He was the MAN today! Hit Pasco 2 on the way back and the barge was loaded with bait and jewfish. Counted 10 at one point. Ended the day with 2 gags, 12 mangos, 4 hogs, 3 spanish macks. Saw turtles, dolphins, spotted eagle rays, AJ and Permit (but they left before we could get shots on them). No sharks other than a tiny hammerhead. Had one boat come up on us as we were leaving a spot - fellow board members here but I didn't get a name. They hailed us and we had fun talking and I gave them a nice ledge number nearby so I'm hoping they got lucky there and I'd love to hear back from them - thanks for being gentlemanly and considerate - wish there were more boaters/fishermen out there like you. |
