Re: Diet, Health and Wellness and Exercise

Hypoxic cardio is descriptive of an exercise that incorporates breath hold with exercise. Sprinter swimmers train that way routinely. On land you can do it on a stationary bicycle with progressive breath holds and 2 minute breath ups while cycling. Apnea walking is another exercise. Sit and hold your breath. When you get contractions stand and walk as long as you can while still holding your breath(on the grass or sand). Keep in mind black outs can be a consequence. If you are at the gym you may want to let one of the trainers or employees know what you are doing. If you develop loss of motor control or black out you don't want the medics hauling you off to the ER. These exercises don't require a safety but obviously any of the pool/water do.

What kind of HIIT would you recommend? I do tabata protocol with 35lb kettlebell swings. Is there a better routine than that?

QUOTE=jackpine savage;2023591]I like to eat 6 to 8 Twinkies washed down by a couple of bottles of Fanta grape soda the night before a dive. Slim Jims are work too. I find that it gives me just the right amount of buoyancy. I also don't poop for at least 24 hours prior to a dive. This is for free diving. Obviously scuba would be a different regimen.[/quote]

I have to ask the curiosity is killing me, what is your scuba regimen?

It doesn't matter what routine (running, swimming elyptical) as long a you get your interval heart rate up to 80-100% of max. It should be so challenging that you can't do more than a minute interval. Then a minute recovery interval.

This year I've started weight training again: Squats, bench press, deadlift, overhead press, and power cleans. Just trying to keep it as simple barbell work. I'm trying to get down to 190-200 lbs.
You will find if you lift heavy weights its harder to lose weight. You will gain muscle and lose fat.I lost the weight to reduce pressure on shot knees and my discs. Now Im doing light weight(doctors order)and trying to walk off or paddle off weight when possible.Goal weight is around 200-210 with very little fat.My weight has been hovering around 224-226 but its warm now so I should be more mobile.Im hoping 10 lbs isnt too hard of a goal for this year.Toll house cookies and milk are not my friend.
