Ab Biller

Does Anyone have a preferred way of mounting a GoPro on an Ab Biller?

Please give this a consideration. Our wood gun mount option allows mounting on that gun.

Re: Ab Biller

I'm also looking for the best way to mount my GoPro to my AB Biller gun. The Mako mount posted here shows me having to drill holes & put screws into my gun. I don't want to drill holes or have screws in my gun.
Is there a better way, maybe a clamp style mount?
Thanks.

Sorry for bringing an old thread back to life.

Re: Ab Biller

The Sea Hornet type guns such as the ABBiller have flat surfaces on the bottom. So it's really easy to attach a flat mount. ABBiller sells a reel mount which screws to bottom of the gun, whick allows a reel to be installed and removed easily.
I experimented by mounting a 1/8th flat piece of metal approximately 3" X 6" using the same screw holes under the reel mount. Worked great.

OTOH the MAKO mount has doen all the work for you, if you aren't good as a handyman.

I wouldn't worry about screw holes, if you predrill them first.

Re: Ab Biller

I have tried out 3 different styles of mounts for my AB Biller and GoPro. First was a small platform mounted near the butt of the gun on the side. It made the GoPro pretty far back from the action, and it had the annoying habit of popping forward at an angle after a few shots. So then I went to a homemade solution that stuck it out off the side near the muzzle. Ran into the same problem PLUS it was interfering with the bands and line. Third try was mounting a GoPro sticky/clip mount underneath the gun, just behind the muzzle. With various GoPro mount accessories I was able to make it work real well for getting good video, but it still suffered from the recoil problem, and sometimes my line would get caught in it and ruin a shot on a fish. I had gotten to where I was not using the GoPro at all anymore (took the mount off) and wasn't looking forward to having to either wrist-mount the GoPro or use a head mount as they produce jerky videos, and the headstrap is notorious for coming loose (I lost my first GoPro this way).

In search of a solution I came across Mako's product. I just ordered it today. I like how you can locate it wherever you want, and I LOVE the ability to quick detach it underwater so that you can use it as a camera in your hand vs. trying to use your speargun to hold on to it while you are trying to video a buddy, or get a close-in shot of something in a tight space. Very eagerly looking forward to trying it out. Good job, Mako!

PS - can't wait for my wife to try out her Mako low volume mask, snorkel, free dive fins, and weight belt in the Keys in May - her first attempt to do some free diving, albeit in 20 feet of water.

Re: Ab Biller

Probably going with Mako for my 42 and 48 Billers along with some other stuff for my youngest boy.The factory runs screws in the guns so there shouldnt be a problem. If in doubt a drop of epoxy in the pilot hole before screwing in will help.My 48 is over 20 yrs old and no rot or problems.
