Florida guy in Cali…help?
Been in Florida my whole life, but I’m in Cali for 6-12 months working contracts here. I want to get out spearing (on scuba) and/or lobstering if possible to experience the west coast. Anyone need an extra diver on their boat to split costs, or do you all have any good recommendations for charter boats to spear and lobster on?
I can tell just by reading that I am way behind the curve as far as knowing what specifies to target here since I’ve only ever been on the east coast. I’ll most likely not be back and able to do this again for a long time so if there is anyone out there that doesn’t mind showing me the ropes or pointing me in the right direction that would be awesome. Thanks! |

I’m in the Bay Area working, but only 3 days a week so don’t mind traveling to wherever on off days

If you take a sacred vow that Donald Trump obviously lost, and you can admit that the earth is NOT flat, and you believe in gravity, and you are not a born again christian who denies science, I might consider taking you out. Or you could just jump into the ocean anywhere there is kelp/ underwater rock structure, and pray to your false god you don't get bit by a GWS

Re: Florida guy in Cali…help?
Check out local dive clubs and dive shops in the Bay Area.
There are very few dive opportunities in Bay Area mostly due to poor visibility. A couple hours drive, north or south, there are some nice dive sites, ocean conditions permitting, here are a few: South: Monterey and Carmel North: Fort Ross and Salt Point Water temp is usually in the low 50's slightly warmer south, 7 mm suit recommended. Good luck |

You should travel south a few hours and try to get hooked up in Ventura or San Pedro. You might bump into a "good" fish this time of year.... I dont have a boat these days but would be happy to get you out if I did...... hope you find a ride!

Most of us freedive. Norcal is mostly rockfish, some strippers, and some halibut. It’s not an area I’m super familiar with. Guys definitely do it though.
