Team Diversion & Various Pics from SBO 2004
With a last second charter thrown together my pops and I joined up with team Diversion with Mike Melcher and Sam Jones for a beautiful day of diving in our first tournament. We had hoped just to make the table and shoot some fish and come back safe. I accomplished that and was happy to take my 23.6 pts. to the prize table. My pops had a rough day, but still made some nice drops and had a blast. Someone said to me at the tournament, if they did not make the prize table they were sure going to eat 100 bucks worth of BBQ. Most everyone got a chance to get something from the prize table, so doing that would not be necessary.
Our team made a decent showing, but the fish were not to be found. It was not from lack of effort. We loaded the night before and met at the dock at 5 AM. We were heading out of John's Pass by 5:30 am and in the water by 8:30 am. We hit around 15 spots from 160 fsw to 35 fsw. The gumbo was real thick in shore. Thanks again for Mike and offering up two spots on his beautiful boat. You made our tournament one to remember and we had a blast diving with two people we had just met the day before. I only wish we would have shot more fish and made a better showing for our team, but we got back safe and got some fish, so it was a success in my book! Thanks for the lessons in how to operate the boat, it was educational and fun all in one. Everyone from our team had a great time and Scott and Kim and all of the volunteers made our first tournament experience a memorable one. Enjoy some of the pics from my perspective of the 2004 Spearboard Open.

Some nice fish from one of the guys from Team Headhunter. You always knew when some big fish were being loaded as the crowd seemed to gather around and it made taking pictures very difficult. Team Headhunter had lots of people watching their fish being loaded. It was a good showing by them.

A shot of the best boat rubbing done by Burt Lancaster and won by Les and Rob. It was a beautiful work of art and the framing was outstanding. Truly something to be proud of!

I did not break any records with what I brought to the table. Being that this was my first tourney and I have been shooting for less than a year I was proud. I shot my largest hog, which was about 4 lbs. I ended up weighing 6 fish in 4 of the categories for 23.6 pts.

This is what the prize table looked like when my name was called and it had already been raided by the rabid dogs
You can bet I will shoot more fish next year and hope to be one of the first up there next time around.

I participated in 2004 Spearboard Open and all I got was the shaft. I seem to be losing these more and more, so this was a great prize to get and it's one less I have to buy. Thanks to Spear One for making these available on the prize table!

Thanks for the correction Scott. I know you worked hard to fill the table so that everyone could get their chance up their and their were nice prizes up there when I went. If I had a boat I would have grabbed that $100 gift certificate for a boat inspection or detailing. Thanks again for a great event!
I will drop a cd in the mail for you of the high res pics that I have.
