I know alot of people travel through Canada or Mexico into Cuba, and that if asked, they won't stamp your passport. If your caught, you lose your passport, and if something were to happen in Cuba, your S.O.L.! Want to take that chance? I'm Cuban-American and I wouldn't give a US $$ of my money to that country. Not until it's people are truly free. Scusami Virgili, for hijacking your thread. The pics/catch are great. Last edited by Toledo970; 08-26-2008 at 11:15 AM. |

I use to go spearfishing there 2 or 3 times a year. To get a (old/ worn) sportfishing boat on the place needs patience and obstinacy... you have to go at about 5 / 10 miles off the coast at the reef boundary (70 / 100f feet depht) or beyond in the blue water. Otherwhise it is everywhere outfished by locals. Spearfishing is for cuban as natural as walking... For the last years fish have been becoming there as distrussfull as in the Med Sea! Summer is obviously more risky: I have to leave tomorrow to the North coast of the island because of Gustav hurricane. Met by chance yesterday an about 21 feet long whale shark wich was following the sardin run. It passed me very close. So huge that I first beleive it was the hull of the boat while I was looking back. It was hurry to take part to the feast! Tried to (free) invite one of my best cuban friend in spearfishing to the Costa Rica Open... but he can't tell his fortune. So we have to wait and see. While he was spearing one month ago, he has been visited in Pinar del Rio area by an huge tiger shark and it was pretty hot. Sorry to US/ cuban community but I can't comment. |

Re: Action in Cuba
I focused to day on cubera (cuban snappers).
Definitly a deep fish. Pic/ fish taken between 70/ 90 feet depht, as usually video in one hand and gun in the other hand. I was recently told by a cuban colleague about over 40 / 50 kg nasty boys staying in a secret spot... at 130/ 150 feet depht. Massive heat is here hard to withstand and I prefer to get drunk with mojito! |

Not any big tuna under the school and deeper. Tuna have been outfished offshore. Bonito are pretty more difficult to catch than YFT because they swim very fast. |
