Hunt Target 2 Cassete Mechanism
Good afternoon for everyone ,
I have question for those who use Hunt Target 2 Cassete Mechanism to build a wooden gun , what is the pros and cons of using the Hunt Target 2 Cassette Mechanism for building a wooden gun ? I think it doesn't have rolls between friction surfaces , any thread talk about that ? |

Re: Hunt Target 2 Cassete Mechanism
A friction trigger is a friction trigger. All stainless steel triggers that are friction will suffer from "cold welding" and this is especially more so for reverse triggers as there are no levers to reduce friction forces. Also with triggers similar to the one in the picture, there is added stress on the sears as the line release pushes the back of the shaft sear. In the best case scenario, when testing in the pool at a target, you will see that your groups are "walking". This is because your trigger break-off point keeps changing as the friction forces scar the surface areas of the trigger sear vs shaft sear contact. In most case scenarios, the trigger surfaces become so bad that trigger pull becomes ridiculously difficult ... to the point where you think you have some sort of safety on. That can cause a dangerous situation and of course can cause many misses on fish.
A predictable and consistent trigger pull is one of the most important criteria for accurate speargun shooting. I cannot stress this enough. The trigger is the heart of any speargun and without a good trigger you just don't have an accurate speargun. My recommendation is to use a trigger that uses a plastic trigger sear (such as the Pathos D1 or Abellan trigger), or just get an Ermessub Long Double Roller trigger. |
