Wow! I am so glad that your injuries were as limited as they were! I knew a diver that lost both of his legs that way.
The Captain should never be on a boat again. I wish you a speedy and full recovery!

Re: I survived to a frightening and near-fatal diving accident!
Hmmm...this hits close to home. I attempted to rescue this guy in Tampa Bay. He had too much to drink, the boat got stuck in shallow water, he was pushing on the back of the boat whilst occupants inside were rocking it, the motor running, and his foot got into the prop. It drug him under and turned his entire leg into hamburger(I AM NOT exaggerating). I was fishing about 200 yards away and heard them yelling. My wife and I arrived on the scene with my shallow running bass boat, eyeballed the gruesome situation up, yelled at one of the boat mates to grab the stringer, with the ring on the end, from the bottom of the boat and tie that SOB as hard as he could around what was remaining of his leg. I arrived at the nearest house, who happened to be a retired paramedic. He got a helicopter to land in his yard. My wife isn't exactly the calm type but she witnessed the life flow out of this guy as we were xporting him to the nearest house (~5 minutes), and she somehow kept herself composed. The guy spent a couple weeks in a coma before the family decided to pull the plug.
Happy Thanksgiving ya'll. Hug your loved ones. You never know. P.S. My apologies if I hijacked the thread. It wasn't my intention. I'm glad you're OK, Virgil. Consider yourself lucky!

Geez, that's horrible. Glad you made it through that scenario and will fully recover.

As usual the difference between fun and tragedy is often a very thin one. Looks like you had a lot of luck, considering all the potential consequences. Tous mes meilleurs souhaits de guerison sans consequences, Mon confrére. Alessandro

Thank's Sacha!
I would like to share that I have been transfered to Havana in an eighties russian helicopter Mig 8 (it's amazing according to the international geopolitic context! ) the take off and the landing were pretty smooth...

I really can't think of a better tourniquet. I was like " Tie that SOB as tight as you can around that remaining leg and pull it hard. His leg is F'd. Don't worry about damaging anything. He'll be lucky if he lives. They were a couple strapping young men.

Re: I survived to a frightening and near-fatal diving accident!
Thank's again!
To day I saw the cuban surgeon.. According to his pro trauma expérience he told that in this terrific context I was very lucky to be propelled by the first shock with the fins and despite the fact that at the same time the boat was backing in my direction.. Posting this pic to show that the both bone legs limited the deep damages..

The scariest threat when diving from a boat other than a shark is the boat itself.
