I hadn't read those accounts. Rick is an incredibly Tough and Experienced person and undoubtedly this plays in his favor. Many people would not have survived the 30 miles trip in. His Dive partner saved his life immediately after the attack. It's terrible and we all send our best to Rick and Angela Bettua. I haven't heard an update. I just have in my mind that Rick is Tough as Nails, and if anyone is going to make it through this it is him.

Rick and his wife Angela met each other on this board. They used to be prominent members. Best wishes to both.

Re: Rick Bettua mauled by Shark in Northern Queensland

Sheesh, I only caught this now. I'm trying to find out through my contacts how he's doing.
I wish him and Angela the best.

I remember talking to him back when his buddy lost his leg to a bull 3 years back. He mentioned the bulls being so unpredictable compared to other sharks. I haven't run into them here in Hawaii, but I do try and carry as much safety gear as possible, including a tourniquet.

EDIT:
Friend said he's doing well and should keep his leg. The grafts and wounds are causing a lot of pain at the moment. The shark rushed him out of nowhere.

True. Angela was a moderator. I wish Rick a speedy recovery. Tony

Rick is recovering, but a very fortunate escape. Shark attacks are being reported on an ongoing basis, so the shark apologists have some thinking to do. Ostensibly lacking hands sharks just bite you to check you out, if you believe this then the Earth is also flat.

Thanks for finding that. I think FB is normally quick to update on that, but I'm not "following" much on there.
We don't get bull here in Hawaii, but I remember Rick telling me before that bulls are just different from other sharks and not to be dealt with the same.
