Re: Polypropelene Floatline Tips
I just swapped out my old float lines for Blue Steel because of the recommendations in this thread as well. It is obvious, simply from handling it, that it is a better line than the crap I was using from the big box store. Stiffer lay, not as slick in the hand, spliced well, looks good. I'm looking forward to getting back in the water with it. The old line was a little tangle-prone because it was so soft. I expect that to go away with a line that is a little more interested in staying straight.
Plus, now I have a big-ass spool of the stuff to dick around with for future projects! So, thanks guys. |

I do a lot of gas splits.. and it's amazing how many boat owners get complacent and don't have enough/proper rope on board to both securely dock as well as lead a drift line out the back of the boat. I plan to cut a length to bring along for other uses besides diving. |

Re: Polypropelene Floatline Tips
I just went to Neptonics Tampa store. Jerry helped me decide on a Torpedo inflatable float. He recommends using good swivels at the top and bottom of the float line, especially with the Blue Steel. He said he has used it and it seems to twist very easy, but that is really a minimum drawback compared to all of the pluses: durability, strength, price, and abrasion resistance. Great people at Neptonics, always helpful.

Re: Polypropelene Floatline Tips
Anyone interested in cutting off about 100 feet of their blue steel and shipping it? I don't need 600 feet! I will pay shipping and a fair price.
Thanks! |

Re: Polypropelene Floatline Tips
I'd be interested in '75 to 100' too if you can spare it.

Re: Polypropelene Floatline Tips
So you guys just rig the blue steel up and use it as a floatline? Looks good! I will probably get some.

Re: Polypropelene Floatline Tips
This blue steel stuff looks pretty good!
I used this splice method http://www.marlowropes.com/3-strand-eye-splice.html Tips- put some electrical tape on the end of each strand, it keeps the fibers together. Also spin each stand with each pass through, it comes out cleaner than if you let the fibers fall apart a little. I still need to do a weight stress test, but I did about 13" of back splicing. Put a couple swivel clips on each end. Thank you all for the suggestions! |

I Didn't trust my splicing, as I did it in a rush, so I threw some whipping and a few constrictor knots to keep everything snug. Last edited by geofri; 04-03-2016 at 01:46 AM. |

Re: Polypropelene Floatline Tips
The foam filled stuff at Memphis is the way to go. It floats at the surface like a snake. I have been using it for years. Taken Marlin, Tuna, and wahoo with it. The blue stuff is O.K. but this stuff is way better. JMO
