Lionfish Trap

It'll be interesting to see if this works and if lionfish wise up to it. I would also be interested in using lionfish decoys with pheromones to attract females because on of the proven ways to control polygamous species is to skew the sex ratio.

Re: Lionfish Trap

I've been hitting the lions pretty hard and am getting tired of eating them. What if FWC allowed us non commercial guys to sell lionfish to restaurants without getting a Saltwater Products license? Would making a little money on the side while diving motivate you to shoot and sell lions?

Re: Lionfish Trap

That spl is only $50 , you don't need the rs endorsement.

I believe square grouper serves them , so they might be a contact for you.

Personally I stick them and release them 99 % of the time. Only if they are big do I bother to take them back to the boat. I try to kill everyone I see.

Fortunately this year I'm seeing less than previous years. (in shallow water )

Ive been seeing them sporadically myself. Had the opportunity to sell them to a restaurant direct last year for 5 a pound whole, went out loaded for bear and had a hell of a time trying to find any.

I have been getting quite a few huge ones here and there though.
