Where is everyone

Hello,
It's been quiet all day. Are you all out hunting lobsters?

Unfortunately, due to my wife's failing state of health, I cannot go out chasing fish too often (or at all) anymore, so there's not much for me to post or ask questions about...
I now practice the art of "diving & spearfishing by proxy," enjoying as much as I can entries made by the fortunate ones who can still do it.

I am sorry to hear of your wife's declining health. The seasons of life come and go, and I certainly do not get out like I once used to. Some of the old posts on this board are worth reading again. There are a LOT of years of archives in its history.

Thanks for your empathy, Max. Yes, the seasons of life do come and go--only I wished they'd move a bit slower... Oh well!
I totally agree with you that some of the old posts are worth reading--over and over again. And I rarely post questions because I've known long ago that the answers must be "in there, somewhere," and all I had to do was some digging.
I hope you get to go out more often before the end of the season, Max. Take care.

Re: Where is everyone

Just like many before, I too pretty much started my spearfishing career here. So many shared stories of trips to Catalina, Mexico, Palos Verdes, Laguna and Long Beach/LA areas. So many pictures shared and so many others enjoyed.
But most, so many amazing friendships that developed over the years. In fact, I am still here, diving just about every week, hunting lobsters, bass, halibut and everything in between.
Lets bring it back to life!

I pledge to share with the newbies and to all out ignore the drama.

… and, start posting pictures and the story again!

I went to Catalina island with the usual suspects. We decided to dive the west end of the island because we believe it would be less crowded. That was the case and so we began diving. There was a lot of bait fish and calico bass in the water, but that was not the objective. We drove to the very end of the island and found a Lot of nice big sheep head. We took four and decided to try for the Yellowtail. As I dove a little deeper, I saw a small school of medium size yellowtail. They swam so quickly that all I could do was watch them swim away and strum the bands of my spear gun in hopes that they might turn around. Suddenly one monster yellowtail emerged from between the kelp and headed straight for me. He came within 6 feet of my gun, and as soon as he turned, I released the spear right into his spine. He looked twice as big as he actually was, but then, thats the way most big fish look when you shoot them. That was enough fish for the day and so I swim back to the boat happy as can be.

Re: Where is everyone

...Made an all nite run down to the 181 last week...swell and wind turned it into a get beat up trip...no cigar. Just returned from a 10-day smokey mountains to Elvis Graceland trip with the good wife.
...Memphis tweakers broke out a window on our rental car one nite after I stupidly left a jacket and hat on the back seat leading them to look for valuables inside. Elvis turned exciting when they received a bomb threat and it put us out in the parking lot for two hours while they did a sweep....On return flight, a guy coughed constantly and, of course, the good wife is down with a bad cold...
...Moral: Don't leave valuables in plain sight in your car and vacation in California, where the girls don't come in two sizes; extra wide and jumbo!... p.s. There are still big gamefish near Catalina, so, no more long runs for me.... also, rumors of my demise are greatly exaggerated....
