Building my own pole spear, need advice
I'm a machinist by trade so I thought it would be fun to make my own pole spear. I'm still a newb to the sport so any advice you guys could give would be awesome. The one question I am most curious about is what thread is most common so that I will have the most variety with spear tips? I imagine it would be a metric one?
Here's my plan so far: -I'll be making the spear out of carbon fiber with a stainless tip. -The tip I am making will be a slip tip although I plan to buy others. -I was thinking of doing 3 foot sections with plans to have a 12' spear. Should I shorten or lengthen the sections? I do plan to travel with it. -whats the best length for surgical tubing and is all surgical tubing created equal or not? Any other design tips would be fantastic. Thanks! |

Re: Building my own pole spear, need advice
Have a look at some of the many brands and what they do. neritic and crist are aluminum. Riffe is pure carbon, gatku is hybrid, also chec head hunter and mako. Make the best out of all that. Surgical tubing... There is dedicated polespear rubber in two diameters and you can even use single speargun rubber. Many companies sell them. Check spearamerica or benthicoceansports.
Just MY OPINION. |
