A special thanks to the FSDA and all of their clubs that have supported Reef Monitoring over the years. No single organization in Florida has done more to advance and promote the sport of spearfishing as well as help groups like us continue research.

The FSDA has always stepped in to help Reef Monitoring. We are eternally grateful for their support.

If you are on this forum and don't know who/what the FSDA is, get it together!

Thank you Denny and everyone else who works tirelessly for this sport!

Re: Reef Monitoring Lionfish Safari Sept. 8-10

Special thanks to the St. Pete Underwater Club for their continued sponsorship of Reef Monitoring! If you were at this years' tournament, you no doubt noticed Reef Monitoring processing lionfish for SPUC. It was a great tournament and a nice turnout of lionfish.
The SPUC, as it is known, was founded in 1952 by an avid group of divers who shared a great enthusiasm for the sport of spearfishing. The St Pete Underwater Club is one of the oldest and best-known dive clubs in the United States. For over fifty years, club members have competed in and won National events, promoted and organized tournaments, and actively campaigned for fair legislation for divers and fishermen alike. They strive to educate the public, teaching that spearfishing is one of the most environmentally sound fishing methods. They continue to work with fisheries managers, lending their first-hand knowledge of the Gulf of Mexico and its denizens. Their proudest endeavor is the St Pete Open, which is hosted and run by their all-volunteer membership. The St Pete Open is the world's largest spearfishing tournament. Many of the largest fish ever entered in a spearfishing event have been brought in to the St. Pete Open.

SPUC has graciously donated a coveted entry into the 2018 St. Pete Open to our prize table. If you plan on competing, make sure you grab that one!

THANKS SPUC!!!!

Re: Reef Monitoring Lionfish Safari Sept. 8-10

The Lionfish Safari is being postponed until next weekend, September 16-17 due to the potential impact of Hurricane Irma. This postponement will be accompanied by a change in venue, however we have not confirmed the exact location. We will be resending out information on setup, schedule, and a new event map as soon as details are finalized. If you are UNABLE to participate next weekend, please let me know as soon as possible. As always, feel free to contact me with any questions.

I appreciate everyone's patience and understanding. Please be safe over the next week, and we look forward to making this year's Lionfish Safari a success.
