Channel Islands advice?

Channel Islands guys,I’m looking for some advice on planning my trip?Whats the best moon cycle for spearfish in the kelp?Last year I met a nice fellow out there that had some quality fish,but I don’t know who he was?Mokaction you out there??

The only thing spookier than White Sea Bass are people on Spearboard these days... no one wants to give up their spots or talk about what fish are around... so it's become a ghost town...

MoonCycle isn't going to be super relevant if you are spearing. Full and New moons usually get better current and tend to produce for the Hook and Line crew. They normally get better Halibut, WSB, and Yellowtail bites on those cycles.

If you are spearing... the only question is if there are fish around... they always eat steal.

If you are inexperienced with the Channel Islands, know that our Channel can be nasty and the crossings are rarely smooth. This time of year expect wind and chop... watch the weather. It can be smooth at 6 am and by noon blowing 20+ MPH... use Windy.com to check the wind forecast

Usually, the further you go the worse it gets. Anacapa can be nice, Santa Cruz okay and rosa unreachable.

Water temps right now are COLD... 54 is about average depending on where on the islands you are. Visibility has been green and the amount of wind we have is keeping it turned over unfortunately. It can be huntable depending on the tides. When the current is moving a little the viz can clean up.

It's socked in with a marine layer most days and the air temp is as cold as the water. It isn't summer yet...

Most of the cattle boats have been doing well on WSB and Halibut at Rosa, but its usually in 100ft of water on the Squid beds and does not help Spearo's very much.

It sounds like San Clemente is starting to get a good showing of Yellowtail and I saw some good fish WSB and Yellowtail come from SBI but again deeper squid bed stuff. There are fish around if you are willing to put in the work to find them. Its still early but the season is getting going.

Ahhh thank you brother!That clears things up a little. my son and I made our first trip out there last year, on a 14 foot bay runner with a 40 horse. Stayed the night on the boat. It was amazing diving. I understand everything is hush-hush.may your float line run tight with a monster��peace
