Heading to New Zealand

I'll be heading to New Zealand for work in a few weeks. Right now the plan is to arrive in Gisborne sometime around the 20th of January and to be there for about a month, possibly longer. I don't know exactly where I will be staying but probably either Gisborne or Mahia. From the Google earth recon I have been doing it seems like there are some good shore dive spots in the area and I'm also hoping to be able to hook up with someone who can point me in the right direction to take some of those massive kingfish I've been hearing about. Anyone familiar with the area or know where I can start looking? I'm thinking of bringing a 90cm and a 120cm gun since those seem to be the most popular gun sizes from what I've read.

Any info or anyone who is interested in meeting up for a dive or two would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Matt
