Re: Best Spearfishing Line?
Ahh, that's what the stuff is called. I have a roll of that memo spec. I haven't tried it out yet, might have to rig up a gun with it.

The one time I rigged my 90 with the stuff it lasted like 2 years before I cut it off to try something else with it. I would shoot it on the reef for big fish in baja in a second, the stuff was seriously indestructible.

Re: Best Spearfishing Line?
"Memospec sounds interesting, do you know of a supplier?"
` ` Ulusub has it. I have some on my newest gun, it feels great, and stretch is no big deal when using a reel, even with no reel the elastic snubber should take up any gain in length. ( If you notice any degradation in shaft speed, get a better gun) Last edited by slingshaft; 12-03-2013 at 07:04 PM. |

Re: Best Spearfishing Line?
Sweet! I'm going to check out that memospec line. What's the knot tying situation with that one? Would you use crimps?
Can't argue with the practically in this post... "Cable is the best for not wrapping around your neck and strangling you in the water." I'm not sure that I should use anything except cable after that comment! |

Re: Best Spearfishing Line?
I was joking...of course. (not to say I don't have issues! )
I emailed someone from ulusub, and he said he's planning to get a 2.35mm, Dyneema over mono, yellow, 750lb line in stock soon. Being new to the sport, I am still confused about how to properly secure braided lines. I saw a very good tutorial on dyneema knot tying, but Rob Allen said that sewing them preserves the most strength. How do you all attach your braided lines? Re: Best Spearfishing Line?
Hey Kyle, the stuff I have is black.
The label says: 1.8mm SBP/DYN WHITE COAL BLACK www.Atlanticbraids.com I went to the website and it isn't listed as one of their products. My buddy Kevin gave it to me just recently. If you're ever nearby, swing by and I'll hook you up.

Re: Best Spearfishing Line?
Ulusub does have a news Speargun Reel line which we developed specifically for our reels.
It's 2.35mm diameter which is nice for a Reel line because it's thick enough to grab onto. We spent a lot of time working on the construction to get a line that is Dyneema, 750lb Breaking Strength, Bright Yellow, and is also very tangle resistant due to the stiffness of the inner core. We are putting together some spools to fit our 60yd and 90yd Reels which we will sell. Right now we just have some giant Rolls of this line which is going out on all of our gun reels. It's great stuff, probably too thick for Shooting line, but perfect for Reels and big fish.

Re: Best Spearfishing Line?
I have used Q-Power line and like it. It does get torn up on the reef, and you have to know your knots to use it, but if you are searching for other types of line than mono and cable, check it out. It is tight braided and waxed or something, so it has a bit of memory. http://www.powerline-sports.com/linelengthssp.html

Re: Best Spearfishing Line?
I live by my bowline knots when tying dyneema. Strongest knot ever. All tightens down on itself as tension is applied and will not come undone unless you want it to. I just use one single bowline but you can follow it up with a full hitch knot if it makes you sleep better I repell from this knot as a professional rope access technician on a daily basis so yes, I literally live by this knot
When using mono, you will need the appropriately sized inner diameter ALUMINUM crimp sleeves and crimping tool. I would assume this would be the same for the new coated mono line from ulusub but am not positive. |

Re: Best Spearfishing Line?
I have used the bowline, palomar, and figure 8 follow through, all with good success. The smaller, the better

Re: Best Spearfishing Line?
I tie the perfection loop for all my shooting lines that require a knot, never failed over the years, bowline is also very very good. How do you use the palomar in rigging?
