Gag opener Sept.1
Well, it's finally arrived. A whole 15 days of open gag season. Gonna look like the Calif. Gold rush Sunday. Instead of covered wagons heading west.. It'll be boats on trailers at the boat ramps heading west. That'll be a zoo in the am and late afternoon with the "holiday" boaters. With all the bad vis reports. It would be wise to take a rod and some bait too. Just in case you're spear shaft tip touches the bottom before you see it. I'm sure the Jew fish and sharks will be roaming around looking for a easy meal . Good luck to everybody.

Viz was pretty awful in a variety of depths from St. Pete to Clearwater. Here's video of my first dive yesterday (9/2/24)

Rob, when the vis is that bad. Best bet is flashlight hunting a reef with plenty of holes and cracks.

I loved looking in crevices and finding a big eye looking back. Ray Odor built me a special short gun with flashlight holder. I cleaned up especially in winter when they were holed up because of the 57 degree water.

Re: Gag opener Sept.1
Everybody, remember to charge up your dive lights or put new batteries in due to the crappy vis for this weekends last 2 days of rec gag season. Would suck to shine on a big gag in a hole and just as you start to line up. Your light die. Good luck.

Re: Gag opener Sept.1
Gag season came and went so quick. The almost daily rain storms and crappy vis didn't help either.

Here was our effort Saturday. Dodging storms and bad viz. We gave it a shot!

Rob, on the bright side. Your boat got a fresh water rinse most of the day. I had a little over 30' of clear horz. vis. ------------ in my pool.
