Lake Powell or lake Mead- end of August striper?
Making a trip down with the boat from Wyoming to target stripers with the family. Which lake would be better of the two? I have never been to either. Also, any tips on either one? They are both huge lakes, so knowing where to go or just what kinds of area to look for striper could be tremendously helpful...
Haven't been on the forum in forever, but my kids are getting old enough that they want to start going, so we are gonna start making destination trips for spearing. My 11 year old son has got one carp before, but I want to try to get him in on some big fish that are good eating! Thanks everyone for any help. Cody |

A lot more striper and larger average size. Not only that but you can shoot a variety of other fish like walleye that are great eating. If you were set on Mead you would be better off Spearfishing the river for striper.

If you launch at the north end you can at bullfrog and head either north or south to find striper There are more fish on the north end but worst visibility. There are a lot more amenities on the south end like restaurants and hotels |

Re: Lake Powell or lake Mead- end of August striper?
Well, the time is approaching, I'm planning to launch at Stateline, simply for being close to fuel, and having good visibility. A buddy of mine fishes there for stripers as well, and says he does good on the south end as well, so I think visibility will be a good thing.
Taking three guns, my JBL lightning explorer 22 (a 38" double band gun), my JBL elite Woody sawed off magnum 44" gun with 3 bands, and my new JBL reaper roller 70cm/39" gun. As long as visibility is at least 6-8", these guns will all see some use, and I'm excited to take the reaper out for the first time. I might get some flashers to take as well to try to attract some stripers. I'll report back here once I'm back |

Stripers are boiling right now so look for surface activity early in the am and late in the day. Approach the boils slow and quietly from the outside.
