Minimum Yellowtail Size in San Diego?
What is the minimum size for YTs in San Diego? Thanks!

1" inch. Any smaller than that would be pretty hard to hit with a spear.

Right, but if I were you I'd put a reasonable size limit on ones you take. Try to get them at least in the 5 lb range at absolute smallest, any smaller than that and you're a baby killer.

From the fish and game regs:
28.37. Yellowtail. (a) Limit: Ten (b) Minimum size: Twenty-four inches fork length except that: Five fish less than twenty-four inches fork length may be taken or possessed. See the dfg website and regulations for details: http://www.dfg.ca.gov/marine/pdfs/oceanfish2010.pdf Good Luck! |
