Removing the butt on an Omer Cayman

Has anybody tried this? Thinking about a mod to make the handle similar to an RA, but I don't have one to look at....yet.

Re: NZ snapper

Hijack alert! This season has been fantastic for big snaps, my most productive to date. The tally includes a couple 20s and one that I think would have gone 20 had a bronzy not bitten him in half. ...

Last fish before Christmas

Well, I'm back home for the holidays and managed to get out before the weather hit. Water wasn't too cold (65-70), vis was 25 feet or so and there were a few fish around. Live bottom had a few...

Re: Band tangle and reel guns!

Hey Geoff, talk to Matt or Long John - they probably use reels more than anybody in NZ. I rig mine with dyneema straight to the shaft and I never have tangle issues, so I'm not sure what's going on....

Re: Spearing on the west coast of Oz

Diving with Barry and the boys has been awesome! Thanks so much guys! We were really fortunate to catch some weather windows and capitalize on some good fish. From the last two trips:

Re: Backpacking and Spearfishing the World

Just got back from a shore dive all the way around the Sanguinaires. One heck of a mission! It's surprising how far offshore you have to swim to get past 20 meters. Anyway, the long and short of the...

Re: Backpacking and Spearfishing the World

Yep, that's the one and a really nice one too. I'm diving with another kiwi now and we are in Ajaccio and are having a hard time finding good spots or a kayak. So far I have speared a barracuda and a...

Re: Backpacking and Spearfishing the World

Finally got in the water again today. I've been plagued by wind for a while now and decided to go anyway. Ended up seeing lots of fish, but the fish were super wary (it was a well known spot close to...

Re: Backpacking and Spearfishing the World

They are like NZ snapper in some ways, but they tend to school on the bottom and dont hold up in the shallows, so its an aspetto game, not snooping. When they are swimming towards you, they look...

Re: WTB long plasctic fins

The best fin for you is all about the footpocket. try on several if you can. If you can't try them on, then I would look at the OMER stingrays. The footpocket is quite nice and the blades are soft,...

Re: Backpacking and Spearfishing the World

Got him. Early bird gets the dentex. It took a bit of work but perseverance paid off. Hopefully I've found the winning formula and success continues.

Re: Backpacking and Spearfishing the World

I went for a dive today and saw quite a few dentex, a bonito chasing three mini almaco jacks, and a rather large queenfish-looking jack species. All just out of range. The diving here is...

Re: Backpacking and Spearfishing the World

Just got back from a dive in a better spot. Saw two good dentex but it was 25 meters and they took forever to come in. When they finally got near, the closest one turned at about 8-9 meters just out...

Just watched that video. Crazy! However, he did take a terrible shot on that fish, was bound to be bad from the beginning. I'll make sure only to take a kill shot :D

Re: Backpacking and Spearfishing the World

Update: I've been on a couple more dives but have not been to any deep rocky places, so haven't really found success. I saw one nice dentex on my last dive but it was shallow and he was not coming...

Re: Backpacking and Spearfishing the World

First shore dive in Corsica: saw a 45-50 kg bluefin tuna in an underwater grassland, about 14 meters depth. Totally surprised and under-gunned.

Nobody is going to believe this and I don't care :)
