Re: “The Clock Is Ticking”: Inside the Worst U.S. Maritime Disaster in Decades

I can't get the article to load on my computer for whatever reason. It's probably written in a more accessible way than the marine boards, but here is a link to the entire document of the marine...

Re: Make Spearboard Great Again

For what it is worth, there is a philosophy that if you give people a place to go argue, that board will act as a containment board and keep the BS off the rest of the site. For that to work though,...

Re: Spearfishing Buoy Increased Safety Accessory

Good thinking. What about a safety sausage type balloon? You'd get more vertical signal surface at the expense of horizontal surface, for better or worse, and if you put some small metal hooks on...

Re: Looking for free dive blade fins

Mako has been good to me. I am a size 13 as well and the 12-13 foot pockets work, but I wear 5 mm socks and once in a while, my feet hurt. 7mm might be a bridge too far... Have you tried 5mm socks...

Re: Big guy wetsuit

For the record, I'm 6'4", 245lbs and all I've ever used is a Mako. My only complaint is a bit of room in the small of my back. I've used it in temps down to the mid-30s F. It is absolutely a...

Re: Your Kayak Setup for freediving

I have an Ocean Kayak Trident 13. It is a wet ride, but it's great for getting places to duck hunt or dive. There is a cut out in the stern deck that fits a milk crate pretty well. I put stuff in the...

Re: Speargun Bands (Quick Question)

How long have you been spearing? Are you sure you're loading the gun right? Try pulling the bands using your back muscles more, (I don't think I'm very good at explaining this via text, but maybe...

Re: small id bands improvement on short 75cm gun?

If you're just looking for opinion:

Replace the bands with 14mm, looped bands. Since the gun is short, I would only use the one band, myself. Cut them short, (start at 350 and shorten if needed....

Re: Mako predator pro 70cm needs more power!

As the others have said, I think the biggest single thing you can do to power it up is take the bands off and cut them as short as you are comfortable with. For a 70cm, I wouldn't even put the second...

Re: Torch Lake Michigan in July

Rough fish only, (carp, gar, cats, suckers, bowfin).
You can also shoot whitefish and cisco. Those are worth eating and do live in Torch lake, but they live deep down because they like the cold. If...

Re: new spearo wetsuit reccomendations?

Camo is up to you, but unless you find NH waters to be exceptionally clear, I don't think you'll go wrong with the green/brown camo that seems to be default for mako.

Re: demultiplied speargun

If you're going to bring electronics into it, why not start with a pneumatic platform with an assistance mechanism inside. Easy loading, then the electric assist kicks in when the spear latches into...

Re: Mitigating Risk For Complete Noob

Take a class. The newer you are, the greater the value it'll have for you.

Having said that, my dives (30ffw on average) are usually between 40 and 50 seconds long. One minute, in that context,...

Re: new spearo wetsuit reccomendations?

No problem! One last tip that might help a new comer:

When we hang our suits up, we use a push-broom handle or a length of pvc pipe through one leg of the inside-out pants and then hook the...

Re: new spearo wetsuit reccomendations?

You need to get it slimey to get it on. When I first got my wetsuit, I put it on dry. Once. It was like getting indian burns every time I moved a limb. That rubber has a lot of friction against skin....

Re: new spearo wetsuit reccomendations?

I dive in November in Michigan with a Mako 5mm two-piece. The water can be mid 30s to mid 40s.

You should go with the Mako 5mm and see how you like it. You can always step up to a different suit...
