Converting a Biller wood gun to roller
Looking for maximum 1 band power on a wood 54 Biller.
Have a friend looking to try a roller setup to possibility increase power with less draw force needed as he is older than me and has a hard time drawing 19 to 20 mm bands 300+% anymore. Muzzle to back notch is 43 inches. Seen kits available, any suggestions on specific roller kits and band lengths? Thanks. |
Re: Converting a Biller wood gun to roller
I think the limiting factor with the Abbiller guns is the trigger. I tried pushing the trigger even a little bit and started to see signs of stress on the sears. So I wouldn't recommend changing the default setup of the gun. If I remember correctly, when I took the trigger apart I was shocked to see that the trigger sears were cut out of 2.5mm metal. I think the thinnest sears I have seen on other triggers is 6mm! 2.5mm is very little metal to hold a shaft and very little metal to distribute the stresses of sliding of sears over each other. So on that project I just backed down and used the default setup. Changing out the trigger is not feasible as an easier project is to just build a gun from scratch.
If your plan is to simply use the same power envelope of the default setup and use a roller to reduce the loading effort ... again not sure if a roller helps as rollers can actually require more effort to load than 2 simple bands. My advice is to just use thinner 2 x 14mm bands and drop the shaft from 8mm to 7mm. This will be easy to load and with 7mm shaft the 2 x 14mm bands will give similar performance to the original 8mm shaft performance with heavier bands. Sure you might bend more shafts but at least the gun will be super easy to load and performance will be very good. Or maybe even one small ID 16mm band if you want just one band ... but then a 6.5 or 6.75mm shaft is a better option. |

This small ID 14.5 mm rubber is very snappy and if you don't cut them short, they will still be pretty easy to load. And if you are trying to hurry up and shoot a hogfish in front of you, one band will probably be fine. https://makospearguns.com/spearguns-...all-id-tubing/ "old spearfisherman never die - they just get longer bands" |
