I have only one suggestion for your type of diving and your size. Ocean Kayak Trident 15. Fast, stable, holds a lot of weight and stows gear the best of any kind in its class. It is also not a heavy kayak, considering all of the stuff it has on it. A lot of guys in my club have them and love them. And these guys are like me, having used and owned several different brands and models. I am stuck with the Tarpon until I can sell mine this winter and use the money towards a Trident 15. I love my Tarpon, but it is way too heavy at 72#, not including some of the extras I add on. Don't waste your time with any other kayak. The only other kayak I would recommend might be a Cobra Marauder. But I would not buy it, considering that the Trident is much better. Shop around and you should be able to find a good used one or a good deal on a new one.

    Hi Bryan,
I'm an Oregon spearo looking to buy a new kayak for free spearing on the Oregon coast. I've read most of your posts and seems you run a WS Tarpon 160, but I think that is from several years ago, and lots of new models since then. interested in your current yak recco please?
My situation: The 90% spearing site we use is a sand beach launch and 3/4 mile paddle to reefs around a big rock. My yak buddies say they try to limit outings to 3' surf and not more than 10mph winds. I'm 5'11" 205 lbs. (38" Riffe MetalTech gun), so seems like 400+ lbs capacity advisable? I like the center hatch between your legs idea for stowing guns. A hatch in bow and tank well in stern seems a good combo rather than both having hatches. Stability/easy-in-out favored over speed considering the short distances. Budget is ample, as i plan on keeping it for a long time.

Top few boats from today's choices? pros/cons?

And thanks for all your value-add to Spearboard!

    Cheers,
    Leigh

So far, I don't think so. You will need to contact Robert, as he has the power and credit card to pay for a site. 559-289-6900 is his cell #

Bryan, Will there be a group tent site in Manchester this year for Big Ab Big Ling? Do you need any help coordinating? I'm not sure what's happening yet, people I've asked so far can't make it. Thanks, Bob M.

A 48" Riffe is a big gun. Too big for Norcal and Cencal. I would buy it and then sell it on Ebay and use the money and profit to buy 2 guns. Wood guns are nice, but they are way over-priced. Euro guns are the norm. They are cheaper and they are every bit as accurate and reliable as any wood gun. Why pay twice as much when the less expensive one will the same? They measure euro guns in centimeters. The size gun I would recommend is a 70-80 cm. One of the best guns in a euro is Rob Allen. They are very inexpensive and are accurate as all hell. Also, sell the AB Billers on Ebay and use the money to buy more euro guns.

Hey Bryan, we met a few weeks ago in Monterey. I don't know a lot of Spearos and wanted some advice. I have a 42 biller and 24 biller that my boy and I are using. What do you think about upgrading to a 48inch Riffe Wood gun? I am finding my son is still more comfortable on the surface, and his 24 is not long enough to hit the fish. Is this too much of a gun on the link below and do you think it is a good deal? Guy is selling it for 200 in the members area. Says barely used....

Hi Bryan, would you have a few minutes if I were to email you a few questions on Monterey area spearfishing and the Tritons. I am looking for some advice as I am just getting back into the sport (doing both scuba and free diving).

    Thanks.
