Thanks,
I will get in touch when I get low on padauk. I need to get some guns finished before starting new ones. I have five guns going in various points of progress...well my first gun is done, but I am epoxying the handle scales... I used cocobola and couldn't get the epoxy right, so sanded them down and oiled them....they started to warp.
Its hard to get a coat of epoxy on with no missed spots, debris, etc. I believe you had problems with the epoxy fish eyeing too.
I'd really like to see a close up of some of your purpleheart epoxyied...I bought a 60x6x2 board but haven't tried it yet.
Sorry, didn't get back to this for a few days. I have no problem packaging a piece and dropping off at fedex. Let me know when you're ready for more, it's not a bother.
Worked out real well. I talked with a guy named Steve and he was real helpful; decided on a board 61" x 7+" x 2". Got one edge jointed. Board was perfect. The price of the wood is good, but getting it packaged/ shipped is expensive...almost doubles the price. I believe it was $120 ( +/- $10 ).
I've bought some on eBay auction and it's typically $50 plus $14 shipping for a 60x6x2 board, but there was a couple small cracks in the end of my board.
I've made a solid padauk gun and cut two lams for padauk/ teak gun...so still probably have enough for two more guns. Was looking on eBay auction for another piece of padauk; seems to be the best wood now that teak is too expensive.
Your lucky to have Owl Hardwoods so close.
If you don't mind packing up the wood and shipping it up I'll take you up on the offer. I think a board under 60" can be shipped at fedex for ~$20... Longer than 60 it goes up a lot.
If it is too much hassle don't bother.
