treasure hunt, bobbing for led... no one believes me, well check it out
Every once in a while, JJ and I go for lead in front of an hydro dam near Montreal. I tell people the bottom is carpeted with lead and people just nod politely... Well nod at this! LOL
This is the reason I sell and give away so many diving weights...

Yeah no kidding. Normally I see lead where they can get stuck easily and usually accompanied with a lot of fishing line. Seems like there's just a ton of lead resting there.

Too funny. Looks like someone dumped out the largest tackle box of lead ever.

Sturgeon fishermen use large hooks and heavy sinkers in an area of with insane currents. Once in a while the current gets so strong (when the dam people open certain doors) that it rips everything off the bottom. On those occasions the lead gets yanked from wherever and travels until it gets stuck somewhere the current cannot reach. It concentrates them as seen here.

I picked up enough lead in one visit to make this much :
It makes little sense I know. Glad to have the video... people thought I was telling tall tales... shit, what we do sometimes puts us in front of things that far outdo fairy tales.

Hey Rene,
I totally believe you. There is one spot on a very popular fishing spot in South Africa at a place called "Inyoni Rocks" at Amanzimtoti. A magnet for fisherman to loose tackle. Lots of crevices in the rocks. Every few years, when conditions were right we used to climb in and recover lost lead. Biggest haul was 400 lbs of the stuff in one morning. Sold some of the loot to fisherman on the rock and melted the rest down to make new sinkers. We used an inner tube with a net in the middle and had to make multiple trips when tube sank after it could not sustain the load. We used a Landie to haul the stuff over the beach! Heavy work, but nevertheless fun. Regards, Mike. |

As teens we used to free dive in the Guadalupe River below several falls. Tubers and canoeists were always tumping and losing stuff. We'd get sunglass (which we "ransomed back" to grateful owners) fishing lures & lead. My brother recovered a West Point ring, which we tracked down owner (inscribed inside) and he sent us a $100 reward. The best finds were coolers full of beer! Back then we didn't care what flavor. Those were claimed as ours under salvage law!
