Upgrading my fish finder. Which one of these two?

Hi Guys,

I'm upgrading my old fishfinder and have been looking around...

I'm deciding between the Lowrance Reveal 7X with Splitshot transducer:

https://www.lowrance.com/lowrance/ty...hot-us-inland/

And Garmin Striker Plus /SV:

https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/59...n/010-01874-00

Price is similar. I am used to Garmin and my handheld is Garmin, but I'm not closed to other options.

Which one do you recommend and why?

Thanks! :)

While I don't own a boat and I know very little about fish finders... What I can tell you from my humble experience using other peoples devices is that THE BIGGER, THE BETTER. A big screen is a must. Get the biggest you can fit in the console.

Besides the size, Garmin earned its reputation from GPS devices (handheld first and later on, wrist devices), while Lowrance seems to have always been making fish finders. I don't know if it means anything...

Can you buy both locally? Spare parts availability/price? Did you get the chance to see both screens under real sunlight to see which one looks better (screen legibility I mean)?

I've always preferred Garmin on my personal boats and when I used to sell custom boats more than half were always rigged with Garmin.

Hard to beat a Garmin...might have something to do with why they are the leaders in the field of GPS...and are slowly taking over all the other fields too ( sonar/fish finders radar, etc)

And what about Simrad? I've read very good reviews about them.

Not taking anything away from Simrad.
It's like I always say about dogs, it's hard to beat a Golden Retriever!
I've had several Goldens, now I have a Cream Doodle...and I think she is better than Any Golden I've ever had, but still...It's Hard to beat a Golden!:toast:

Good analogy. I think I'm going for a Garmin.

Now, which model? Any inputs? I don't want to break the bank.

Model will depend on screen size and features (full touchscreen or hybrid with buttons).

One other thing to consider would be the transducer you are pairing it with. Are you looking for transom mount with all the sidescan, downvue etc? Or traditional sonar?

I'm considering a hybrid with a transom mounted transducer. Depending on the price, sidescan and all the wistles would be nice.
