Can you tell us more about the rules and format?
Since it is a World Cup I imagine every country is represented by a single team?

Hey Kodama
we allow multiple teams from each country - even mixed nationality teams - the event has High Level Divers from Brazil, Australia, GUAM, Ecuador, South Africa, Florida, CA, Texas, LA and more - 5 fish a day max that you can shoot - only one fish per species per day
all pelagics except you are allowed a single reef fish in the entire tourney - we score teams for plaques but the individual score are the ones that count for the prize money and the insane sponsor prizes
bring your team of 3 or we can team you up with others - send a brief dive resume to contact@palapasventana.com to register
Rules and species list attached

Less than two months to go until the 2019 Blue Water World Cup!

Not only do BWWC divers get to hunt world-class pelagics in the Sea of Cortez, they also are giving back to local schools.

Every year the event supports a project in rural Baja. Last year, the small town of Rancho El Ancon didn't have a playground. We sold the fish speared during the tournament and raised $1800 to buy them their first playground equipment.

They named it "Parque Los Buzos," or Divers Park. How cool is that?

We're excited to continue supporting this project with this summer's tournament!

We've got just a few spots left, so if you're up for it, apply by sending your dive resume to contact@palapasventana.com.

Just an idea of what the BWWC is like....check out that Marlin diver Ivan Struthers hit right off the bat on day 1!

RECAP:
Divers were seeing fish - amber jacks, yellowtail, wahoo and marlin. Some shots were missed, some hammerheads got a little curious.

But our 21 divers from around the world ground out a solid day to kick off the 2019 Blue Water World Cup.

Bob Porter (team Los Chingones) came home with the biggest fish of the day, a nice striped marlin.

Joe Farlo (team Fathomiers) clocked a 23 -lb wahoo, and was all smiles on the beach.

The biggest amberjack on the beach was shot by Jason Whitehead (Los Chingones) at 26.2 lbs.

Some nice toros (22 and 23 lbs) hit the scales, as well as a few skipjacks and milkfish that count toward diver totals and can be chummed for Day 2.

But it was Carlos Velarde of Costa Rica (team Pargo Negro) who won the day by grinding it out and shooting four out of his 5 allotted fish. They weren't massive, but they added up and sent him to the top of the standings.

FUNDRAISING:
We sold the fish at market prices and raised $324 dollars for the local playground in our first day!

Stay tuned for day 2 action....

Carlos Velarde of Costa Rica (team Pargo Negro) held on to his lead today, putting four fish on the table for a 2-day total of 105.4 points. GR Tarr (team Red Tide) is hot on his heels, though, with 101.6 points.

Travis Nichter brought in that gorgeous roosterfish, weighing in at 41.2 lbs. Josh Russell (team Waterman's Guide) scored a 21.4-lb dorado.

Team Los Chingones used day 2 to make waves in the reef fish category. Jason Whitehead and Ivan Struthers clocked pargos weighing 60.8 and 51.4 lbs respectively. It was enough to send Whitehead to third place.

It's close at the top, so it's wide open and shaping up to be an epic final day of the 2019 tournament.

The final tally is in! We raised a total of $3,757.50 for local school children in Baja.

A HUGE thanks to all of our divers for working hard out there and donating some great fish to the cause.

We couldnīt have done any of this without our generous sponsors. Every one of our divers walked away with amazing gear from:

Daryl Wong speargun, DiveR, SportTube, KAP, Red Tide Spearfishing, The Waterman's Guide, Blue Tuna, American Dive Co., Riffe, Spear America, Neritic, Blue Water Sensations, Pelagic, Koah, Hammerhead, Omer, Suunto, Atomic, Patagonia, Neptonics, Pelagic, Florida Freedivers, Gannet and Salt Life.

Stay tuned for 2020 dates!

Re: Bluewater World Cup Tournament 2019

This years Bluewater World Cup Invitational Spearfishing Championships was all about a change in strategy, a change in plans, and execution on the fly.
After Day One, we found ourselves swallowed up in mid pack amongst the other competitors. We decided to go unconventional and target the species that most divers overlook.
On Day two we worked our way back through the pack one fish at a time in stiff currents and not so good visibility, then found ourselves back towards the top as possible contenders to win.
Finally on Day three we pulled away from the everybody by landing some great fish including a near record 73 lb Rooster Fish caught by team mate Guy Nesbitt. This fish was massive and the biggest I have ever seen.
I am truly grateful for our teams win and my overall win for the competition.
Thank you Palapas Ventana for a hosting this World Class event and helping the local community. You guys are the true "Class Act"
